Skin Care Routine for men
Men's Skin Care Routine starts with knowing the skin type. Not all the men have same skin type, it differ with regions, climate, eating habits, pollution etc. So that it is must to know the actual skin type before following any of the Routine.
Lets get started with Our Skin Care Routine.
1. Cleanse :
The foundation of great skin and a bright complexion is clean skin. Generally, a best practice is to wash your face upon waking up, and after any major activity where you sweat, or right before you go to bed. You never want to end your day with oil and sweat sitting in your pores. Ideally, you'd wash your face twice a day.
Before washing your face, open the pores by warming up your face with warm water. A warm face causes the pores to expand, helping to make sure the face wash gets inside and cleans up any oil or build up. Lather up your face for 30 seconds with a men's face wash by lightly rubbing in a circular motion. Try not to pull down on the skin as you don't want to help gravity and expedite the natural occurrence of loose skin.
Rinse with cool water as this will shrink your pores, preventing new dirt and oil from entering. Pat your face dry since rubbing your face encourages premature wrinkling from stretching the skin. Your face should feel clean, but not "too clean". People have been programmed by cheap drugstore brands to think your face should feel tight after its washed. This is actually bad for your skin as it can increase oil production, create breakouts, and excessively drying out your skin accelerates aging.
2. Scrub :
Using a men's face scrub (exfoliating) 3 -4x a week, depending on your skin type. Exfoliation will help remove dead skin cells and any deep down impurities within the pores. Ideally, scrub before you shave to help loosen up whiskers and elevate them further above the skin, allowing for a closer shave.
Only scrub your face after washing it. Apply a dime sized amount of scrub to your face and gently rub the scrub over your skin. Focus on areas where dead skin is more likely to build up, usually the nose, forehead and neck. Be careful of scrubbing too harshly around the eye, where skin is most delicate, you don't want to encourage wrinkles. If using scrub before a shave, make sure to concentrate on the areas of your face you plan on shaving.
After scrubbing your face, rinse with cool water to close your pores, preventing new impurities and oil from entering. Pat your face dry as rubbing your face encourages premature wrinkling from stretching the skin.
3. Moisturizer :
A good moisturizer is one of the foundations of an effective skin care regimen for dry, older skin. Moisturizers can soothe dry skin and make wrinkles less noticeable, even though the effect is temporary..
Most moisturizers contain water, glycerin, petrolatum, stearic acid, propylene glycol, and lanolin. Some contain botanical ingredients, such as jojoba oil, coconut oil, safflower oil, and linoleic acid, which help maintain the skin's outer layer of keratin and keep skin supple. Manufacturers use other ingredients, such as cetyl alcohol, palmitic acid, and dimethicone, to give
moisturizers a creamy, velvety, or translucent look and feel, and to help shore up the "mortar" that keeps skin soft and smooth.
Some moisturizers also contain sunscreens and cosmeceuticals, which help prevent or even correct fine wrinkles, uneven skin pigmentation, and other signs of aging and photo-aging...
4. Toner :
What is Toner ?
Toners are often misunderstood and most people don't know if they should use it or how to use it. Before moisturizing and following your facial cleanser, a face toner is a quick, absorbing liquid that helps to remove excess dirt, traces of oil and makeup, correct and balance the pH of your skin, and helps control acne. In other words, a facial toner thoroughly cleans the skin and helps remove built up surface dead skin cells. By helping to clean and close pores, it's especially beneficial for acne-prone skin.
How to Use Face Toner?
• Start by cleaning your face with a gentle cleanser for sensitive skin suited for your skin type. Choose one free of harsh detergents, such as sodium lauryl sulfate and fragrance.
• Dampen a cotton ball with the alcohol-free toner, and apply it on your face.
• Allow it to dry.
• If you have combination or oily skin, you can use alcohol-free toner at day and night. For dry skin, it's best to only use it once a day at night time.
• Always follow with moisturizer for your skin type.
How to choose toner for your skin type :
• For acne-prone skin, choose an alcohol free toner with alpha hydroxy acid (AHA). This will leave your skin clean and glowing without flaking. A gentle tingle for a few seconds will let you know it has just the right amount of pH of slight acid solution. This form of acid is gentle even for sensitive skin, unlike irritating ingredients like retinoids.
• Salicylic acid is often recommended in a facial toner for acne prone skin. However, this ingredient can be harsh, specially for sensitive skin.
• Other ingredients for normal to combination skin may include coenzyme Q10, hyaluronic acid, glycerin and vitamin C.
• Although essential oils and plant extracts have had marketing to help give them a 'natural' and 'good for you' feel, these ingredients may result in skin irritations.
5. Sunscreen :
In its most crucial role, sunscreen protects your skin from the sun’s harmful ultraviolet rays, which come in two forms – UVA and UVB rays. UVA rays are most commonly associated with skin aging; these beams cause fine lines, wrinkles, and age spots that make skin look prematurely older. UVA rays have the ability to pass through glass, meaning your skin is exposed to them while you are driving and standing or sitting in front of windows with the blinds open. UVB rays are the ones most commonly associated with sunburns. Unlike UVA rays, UVB beams cannot pass through glass. Both UVA and UVB rays are carcinogens (cancer-causing), which is why you should invest in a sunscreen that offers broad-spectrum protection against both types. Even if you have darker skin or tan rather than burn, skin cancer is non-discriminatory and can be diagnosed for any age, gender, or skin type.
Sunscreen keeps your skin healthier in other ways as well. It protects sensitive skin against sunburn and it reduces the appearance of sun damage – discolorations and dark spots, sagging or leathery skin, and wrinkles. These protections help your skin maintain a more even skin tone overall.
Guidelines for application of Sunscreen :
Wear sunscreen on every occasion you will be spending time outside. Even on cloudy days, 80% of ultraviolet rays can penetrate cloud coverage. Keep in mind that snow, sand, and water all reflect UV rays, which makes them more potent when they hit your skin.
It is recommended that purchasing a sunscreen that is broad spectrum, SPF 30 or higher, and waterproof. A sunscreen’s SPF (sun protection factor) determines the percentage of UV rays it will block. SPF 30 will provide more than adequate coverage – it blocks up to 96% of the sun’s rays, and protection only increases minimally with higher SPFs.
Apply 1.0 ounce (enough to fill a shot glass) to all exposed areas of your skin 15 – 30 minutes before going outside. Don’t skip your scalp, ears, and feet, which are all susceptible to both sunburn and skin cancer. Reapply every two hours or after perspiring or swimming. Even if you are wearing a waterproof sunscreen, it needs to be reapplied regularly. Throw out and replace sunscreen per its expiration date or if you notice changes in its color and/or consistency.
